Deputy editor, FOOD&WINE Magazine, Harmonia
Orla Murphy graduated from DIT Aungier Street with an honours degree in journalism in 2004. Shortly after, she began her first full-time role in journalism by working as a sub-editor and designer for The Irish Farmers’ Journal, a role which she held for two years, while also dabbling in freelance writing. Orla went on to work as a sub-editor and designer for RE&D, an outsourcing company for the Irish Independent, where she gained invaluable experience working under strict deadlines on daily newspapers.
In 2008, Orla landed her first full-time writing position as a senior journalist for Checkout Magazine, Ireland’s longest running grocery retail magazine, where she worked for two years. Through numerous features and interviews with some of Ireland’s leading artisan food and drink producers, Orla discovered and developed her passion for all things food-related.
In 2010, Orla was hired as staff editor for Ireland’s FOOD&WINE Magazine working as part of the Harmonia group. Having since been promoted to deputy editor, Orla’s role in FOOD&WINE encompasses monthly restaurant reviews, writing and editing recipes and copy, the development of food photo shoots, sub-editing and much more.
She is a member of the judging panel for the FOOD&WINE Restaurant of the Year Awards and became a member of the Irish Food Writers’ Guild in 2014. She currently holds a certificate in wine education from the Wine & Spirits Trust (WSET).
