Dublin Cookery School has launched a new scholarship that gives the opportunity to learn cooking skills and pursue a career in food.
Dublin Cookery School, Blackrock, fronted by acclaimed chef Lynda Booth, is offering a scholarship place on its prestigious three-month certificate course this September to one lucky winner. The course is the only type of its kind in Dublin and is widely recognised as a credible and practical route to acquiring the expertise and skills needed to pursue a career in food.
The school’s professional full-time, three-month certificate course is the perfect vehicle for anyone looking to work in the food industry. The scholar will become a student of the course (value € 8,490) and participate in three of the school’s pop-up restaurant nights, playing a key role in helping to prepare and cook a five-course tasting menu for up to seventy paying diners.
As part of the course, the scholar will also enjoy field trips and meet Irish food producers, industry experts in wine and cheese, food business advisors and health & safety professionals. All students that complete the course gain a HACCP food safety qualification. Like any student of the course, the scholar will also have an opportunity to work in a professional kitchen by going on a ‘stage’ placement – the winner will be given the chance to go to Forest Avenue and learn from top Irish Chef John Wyer.
How to apply:
To apply for the scholarship, simply post a selfie with a signature dish you’ve cooked (via the Dublin Cookery School Facebook page or using your Twitter or Instagram profiles) with a 50 word pitch using hashtag #dublincookeryschool, explaining why you should become the Dublin Cookery School scholar.
Entries close at midnight on Monday 22nd June 2015. Lynda will then interview shortlisted candidates before inviting finalists to participate in a cook-off at Dublin Cookery School, Blackrock, Co Dublin on Monday 6th July 2015 from 6pm onwards. Finalists will have 90 minutes to prepare, cook and present their signature dish to a panel of judges.
Applicants seeking to win the Dublin Cookery School scholarship should demonstrate flair, creativity and drive. The Dublin Cookery School scholarship judges are: Lynda Booth, one of Ireland’s foremost cookery teachers, Forest Avenue head chef John Wyer and Stephen & David Flynn from The Happy Pear.
