Michelle Darmody

Michelle Darmody is a weekly food writer with the Irish Examiner, author of The Cake Café Bake Book and is regularly asked to speak on food issues by the Irish media.

Michelle studied fine art in CIT Crawford College of Art and Design but grew up with a love of good quality food which was handed down to her from her Father and Mother. After college she traveled the world working in restaurants and cafés along the way. On returning home she set up The Cake Café in Dublin’s south inner city. It quickly became a market leader in all things cake as well as gaining a reputation for the well sourced savoury menu supporting small Irish food producers in the local area. With the café’s location hidden away from any passing trade Michelle managed to create a storm of publicity through a variety of traditional PR techniques and a willingness to embrace the possibilities of social media. Six years later Michelle expanded the business to Stoneybatter in Dublin 7, opening Slice.

Most recently Michelle has founded Our Table with Ellie Kisyombe, a food project aiming to highlight the fact that people seeking asylum in Ireland are not allowed to cook for themselves.
